I have always loved the Star Wars Trilogy, you can ask anyone that knows me that. But I remember the first time I heard that they were making more Star Wars movies, but for some reason I sorta shrugged them off and said they probably wont be that good compared to the original trilogy.

I only started getting interested in it when it was getting closer to being realised...more to the pint when the first trailer came out. What I saw made me think, geez this look great...maybe I was wrong.

When it was finally realised, there were already bad reviews, but I didn't listen to them. Its upto the individual whether they will like the movie or not...not somebody else's opinion.

Well I took the day of work and went with my mate to see it. When the movie finished, I walked out thinking....what the hell was that? I didn't really think it was great. It wasn't like terrible, but there was just something about that movie that didn't sit right with me...it just didn't feel like Star Wars.

I did go back several times to see it, I think you understand a movie when you see it more then once, because you do miss things the first time around. I must say that I did start liking it a bit more then the first time I saw it.

I'd have to say that I'd only give this movie 3/5 stars. Which isn't a bad rating, its just not a classic. It could have been better, but I am still very keen to see the next 2 star wars movies.

The Phantom Menace

The Good

  • Special effects were fantastic.
  • Lightsaber Duel at the end was fantastic, easily the best looking lightsaber fight in the Star Wars series.
  • The music was once again very good, duel of the fates was a great piece of music.
  • Watto - I thought he was a great character and was quite funny. the scene where Qui-Gon tries to use the jedi mind trick on him was great.

The Bad

  • Jar Jar Binks - I don't hate him, but I could not understand what he was saying half the time and he was annoying at times (especially when he was in the bongo). He did have some funny moments, but they were very few and far in between.
  • Trying to understand several events that happen in the movie. Such as 1. How did Darth Maul track the Queen to Tatooine. Where did all the Trade Federation Battleships go? These 2 questions I think are big to the story and weren't explained and made it confusing.
  • The Phantom Menace had more bad lines throughout the movie then the entire Star Wars Trilogy combined.
  • Character Development- There wasn't very much there, I think the problem here is are way to many characters in this movie..so it leaves much room for character development to happen.
